Ben Darwish Trio - Ode To Consumerism When it comes to records, those that fall under the reaches of jazz are the only recordings that actually benefit from a live audience. Ode To Consumerism is one such album carefully executed by Ben Darwish, Eric Gruber and Jason Palmer. Opening with a short drum solo, the album eases into the title track, Ode To Consumerism, a classy track full of intentional dissonance and a reflective destitution. Standouts include their cover of Killing Me Softly and the Interlude highlighting Darwish's control of the piano. While the album showcases the undeniable abilities of all members, it is a bit disjointed with an unexpected Greenday cover. I am all for deconstructing and re-interpreting widely known songs, but Greenday is a bit of a stretch. Nonetheless, this is a phenomenal showcase of Portland's lesser known jazz kings. Andrew saw fit to give Ode To Consumerism 4 Maple Bacon Bars:
